Installation Tips

How to install and care for your GoBigBanners.com banner

When properly handled and stored, your vinyl banner will last outdoors for many years. Banners are considered a temporary signage solution. Here are some tips for keeping your temporary sign in good shape.

1. Hang vinyl banner using all provided grommet holes

Grommets are provided every 24" over the length of your banner - use them all to provide equal tension on each hole when attaching them to a wall or side of building. Banner Material is very strong, but not indestructible most banner failure occurs when only the corner grommets are used. If a grommet tears, the banner will flap in the wind, damaging the banner material.

2. Use zip-ties or similar

Zip ties are exceptionally strong and durable, a great choice for hanging banners in a variety of situations such as on chain link fences. Use long UV resistant zip ties (12-18") for best results. Ball bungee cords can also be used to install your banner between two posts. Once again, attach the banner using all grommets for best banner durability. Zip ties are cheap and easy to use, if you are traveling with your sports banner to a game, this is a very recommended option. It also prevents theft and unwanted removal since you need wire cutters to remove the banner (don't forget those!)

3. Use Screws with Flat Washers

If you choose to attach your banner to a wall with screws, we recommend using flat washers that are larger than the outside diameter of the grommet. Secure all grommets with a screw and flat washer. This option is probably most applicable for estate agents who are attaching real estate banners to buildings.

4. Use nylon rope

When installing between two posts or if you can’t put screw holes in your wall, you can lace the top and bottom edges of your banner with nylon rope. Run one length of rope through all the grommets on the top of the banner and a second length of rope through all the grommets on the bottom of the banner. Tie a knot at each end near the corner grommets to prevent the banner from sliding inward. Stretch the banner tight between two posts and secure each end of the rope.

4. Storage and handling

If the banner is wet, allow it to dry before rolling it up for storage. A wet rolled banner stored long term will be ruined! Store your digitally printed banner rolled with the print to the inside to prevent scratching the graphic. Don't roll it too loosely or when stored it will flatten and end up with folds in the banner. We recommend rolling your banner around a 2" diameter or larger tube for long term storage. Store your banner in a cool, dry place. Do not fold your banner for storage.

Troubleshooting and fixes

Even the best laid schemes of mice and men go astray. When problems occur, here are some helpful tips:

1. Removing wrinkles and folds

Best method to remove unwanted wrinkles and folds is to hang it as though you are going to use it. Hang the banner tightly using all the grommet holes - ideally place in full sun to warm the vinyl and allow the wrinkles to dissipate. Significant creases may not fully dissipate. As always prevention is better than cure - Don't Fold Vinyl Banners.

2. Torn out grommet

So you've managed to tear out a grommet from your brand new personalized birthday banner that your friends gave you. Sad face. If the grommet is completely missing, your best option is to place another grommet next to the location of the missing one. You can call us at 970-252-1789 to order a grommet replacement kit for $15.00 plus shipping. Alternatively, send it back to Go Big Banners.com and we will repair the grommet(s) at no charge. All you will pay for is shipping to and from Go Big Banners.com.

3. Banner badly damaged and beyond repair

Send us the banner and we can assess the damage - repairing it if possible. If no repairs are possible we'll contact you and let you know. At this point you might consider upcycling it by turning it into a recycled banner bag and we can pass it on to Trash E Bags.com for you.
Of course now you'll need a new banner, so it would be a great time to use our free design software to create a brand new custom vinyl banner. You knew I would suggest this at some point didn't you?
